Invisalign is an impressively effective solution for anyone who wants to straighten their teeth without the need for visible braces. If you’re considering getting Invisalign fitted, then it’s something you should really research before making your mind up so that you know what you’re getting and how to look after your teeth properly with Invisalign.

To learn the basics about Invisalign and how it differs to traditional braces, read this blog for some more information. After the basic idea of Invisalign treatment, many patients ask the question of how it will affect any dental work they’ve had in the past or any they might need in the future. It’s an understandable concern for patients to have, so read on to address these concerns when making your decision.

Invisalign and dental implants

If you have had a dental implant or crown fitted to replace a missing tooth or repair a damaged tooth, then you can still be a candidate for Invisalign. The best course of treatment will depend on the positioning of your implant and the severity of your misalignment, so it is important that you see your dentist first for their consultation on the matter. Dental implants cannot be moved in the same way as natural teeth can because they are fused into place, so your dentist may recommend that a smaller, temporary crown be fitted during the Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign and root canal treatment

A root canal is used to treat infection deep within the tooth. If you are undergoing Invisalign treatment, then you can still have a root canal treatment performed. The Invisalign trays that fit to your mouth during your treatment are removeable, so these can simply be taken out for your dentist to perform the root canal. This procedure should not change the shape of your tooth, so you can just continue to use the same tray afterwards.

If you have any dental work done during your Invisalign treatment that will change the shape of your teeth, then you will simply need your Invisalign trays remolding to the new shape of your teeth afterwards. Veneers are one example of this kind of treatment. You can still have this done with Invisalign, they will just need refitting afterwards.
